New Kids on the Block still has the right stuff

Seminal boy band to bring all their hits June 18 to Mohegan Sun Arena

"New Kids on the Block," from left, Danny Wood, Donnie Walhberg, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre and Jonathan Knight, will perform June 18 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

At a glance

Who they are: The all-male pop group enjoyed enormous success in the ’80s and ’90s, selling more than 70 million albums worldwide and paving the way for other successful acts, such as Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC. Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood are back together with a new album and their latest single, “2 In The Morning.”

Some of the hits: “Hangin’ Tough,” “Step By Step,” “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” “Cover Girl,” “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time),” “I’ll Be Loving You” and “Tonight.”

The tour: The group intends to play all the familiar hits — along with some brand new ones too.

“Our old songs aren’t necessarily standards — they were pretty sweet — but it’s going to be fun in a live show. People come to hear that music, so we’re going to sing it with basically the same sound,”
Wahlberg said on the band’s Web site.
“We’re not doing a reggae version of our three biggest hits because when I see that, it pisses me off. Even I’m like, ‘spare me.’ We have something like 10 Top 10 hits, which is amazing. So if we do those and five new songs, we’ll have a hell of a show. We will give the people what they want to hear.”

Hangin’ out:

“I think the thing with us is that we always hung onto the fact that we were buddies first,”
McIntyre is quoted in a press release on nkotb.com.

“This wasn’t a cattle call or a reality show. The point is, this wasn’t a business first. It’s wasn’t even a business second. This was a business last. And in the end, we stayed friends and didn’t judge each other two much, which could get frustrating. But the pay off for that is that almost 20 years later, we can get together, hang out and have fun. It’s different now, it’s a little more planned out and professional, but we’re still a bunch of guys who love doing this and want every show to be our best.”

More from Joe Mac Lets Get This Foundation

Wow!
The poems, the pictures, the people…
I never thought I would learn so much about you guys this way,
but what a way to do it!

Your personal stories are inspiring and your ideas are awesome.
And we intend to act upon many of them. This is just the beginning.

Step 1 is this book drive and we will be picking the volunteers right away.
We will contact those volunteers in the next week for the first week of the tour.
I will tell everyone when we are maxed out for volunteers. If you don’t get picked
that is no reflection on you. The response has been overwhelming- which is great!-
but we can’t pick everyone unfortunately.
BUT! As you know, we will need everybody’s help to get the word out and encourage
people to bring a NEW book to our show.
*Don’t get frustrated if we don’t get back to you. We are doing this step by step, but they
are baby steps right now :)

Let’s not push anybody. This is a fun night out for everybody and if people choose
to help in another way or not that is totally cool. Again, we will be working with an on-line
organization so people can contribute that way, too.

So stay tuned! We will be in contact in all kinds of ways- emails, Twitter, and coming soon
our Let’s Get This web-site!

Thank you again for your amazing response! Keep the energy going!

Lets get this Foundation, blog by Joe Mac

LET’S GET THIS FOUNDATION!

This blog is the informal yet official announcement of something very
exciting and powerful-
The Let’s Get This Foundation-
Helping the world, Step by Step.

I believe that all of us want to help out, but we don’t know how or we
just don’t think our contribution will make a difference. Thankfully,
the fact is we can make a difference.

The Let’s Get This Foundation is about people coming together to learn
how, in even the smallest ways, we can make the world a better place.

We are gonna learn as we go, but the time is now!

We want this foundation to be a hub for all kinds of charitable works.
A place where we can go to get involved in something that we are
passionate about. A place where we can find a passion we didn’t know
we had.

Charity often feels like a selfless action, but we believe that
there’s no greater feeling than helping others in need.

Like it says- helping the world, Step by Step- we will take it one
endeavor at a time.

So… “Step 1″ is a Summer Children’s Book Drive on this year’s Full
Service Tour.
There is an enormous lack of age appropriate reading material for the
kids.
I will be informing you with the staggering facts in the coming weeks.

Of course, I am aware that I am asking you to buy a new book after you
already have paid for tickets to our show, so if you can’t afford to
do it now, maybe you will be inspired to help out in another way.

But a quick note to those of you that spend money on teddy bears and
t- shirts or hats for us, maybe this summer you can spend it on a new
book for a child that really needs it :)

We fully appreciate all of the gifts you bring to the show and it is a
sign of your artistry and love, but I know me and the guys would feel
alot better knowing that your gift went to a bigger cause.

Early reading is crucial in so many ways and effects almost every part
of society. There is a huge void and I know we can fill it with new
books for these children.

I will be in touch with all kinds of info and a new web-site to link
us all up.

In the meantime, I’m working on a studio version for “5 Brothers and a
Million Sisters” and will give it away as a free download to those who
bring a NEW childrens book to a show this summer. Having the actual
books in hand is great. However, if you choose not to bring one with
you to the concert, we are hooking up with an amazing on-line
organization that will enable you to buy a new book for as low as TWO
Dollars!!! Those who want to go that route will also get the free
download- my thank you for getting involved.

I will be looking for volunteers in every city to help out at the
shows, so start working on you “why I want to be a part of the book
drive” in 100 words or less essay :) EMAIL ONLY TO: letsgetthisfoundation@gmail.com

More to come very soon!
Thank you for listening.
And I wouldn’t be asking your help if I didn’t think we will be making
a huge impact on this problem!
Now… For real….
Let’s Get This!!!

New Kids on the Block Cruise the High Seas with Fans

New Kids on the Block Cruise the High Seas with Fans

All five original members of the historic boy band New Kids On The Block --Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg-- took off on a three-day cruise with 2,000 fans. But not before sharing their feelings on manscaping, mankini’s, and who gets priority seating in the lifeboat.

In getting set for the high seas, Wood admitted to People that ‘manscaping’ is a must. "Yeah, I manscape," he says. "You've got to look good in a swimsuit. I live down here and I'm always at the beach, so it's kind of a must for me."

And what about swimsuit attire? NKOTB won’t be rocking banana-hammocks, it seems. Wood says, "John Mayer may get away with a mankini, but the rest of us can't."

When Wahlberg is unfamiliar with the term, Joey McIntyre clues him in explaining, "It's like a Speedo with suspenders, but all one piece.”

The reunited band is feeling the love. In the event of a Titanic emergency, "I'd give up my seat for these guys," says Wahlberg. "I'd do it in a heartbeat."

Awe!

The cute one, Jordan Knight offered, "I don't have kids, so you can have my seat."

Finally, the other cute one, McIntyre, pipes in with a slightly less selfless assessment adding, "I'd like to think I'd do that, but I have a little baby at home. So maybe I'd be the one to step all over everyone else to get in the boat."

After returning to dry land, the band will kick off their summer tour in Atlanta on May 28th.

NKOTB Cruise Disappoints the Hardcore Fans Who Paid $1000 to Board

nkotbcruiselogo.jpg
via nkotb.com
The highly-anticipated (read the comments, doubters) NKOTB cruise docked at the Port of Miami Monday morning and dumped a couple hundred disappointed fans onto our shores. Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, and 2100 of their biggest fans boarded the Carnival cruise ship Imagination under the pretense that there'd be live shows, meet and greets, photo ops, memorabilia and MORE. But not the MORE that you think.

Instead, there were MORE bitter pills to be washed down by cruise booze after NKOTB member Danny either ignored fans or zinged them with remarks like, "I was spending time with my kids, is that alright?" (The latter came when he was asked why he didn't attend the Pajama Jammy Jam on the first night.)

MORE years of ridicule for the woman who ripped up her New Kids' bedsheets and made them into a skirt for the Sunday night all-white fete.

MORE love for Donnie (bro of Marky Mark) for attending every party, rubbing elbows with fans, and being friendly - as a beloved boy band-er should.

MORE security for the women who had been designated as threats after being arrested for previously stalking group members. Really, girls?

For the $1000 price tag, you'd think that the Old Kids on the Cruise would have bothered to show some attention to their last 2000 (and f-in hardcore) fans who paid good money to hang tough, or at least have a mediocre convo with them. But noooo, according to an on-board spy, the bodyguard-ed boys were overwhelmingly anti-social, sticking to a VIP area during the parties and barely greeting fans when approached.

The last time I checked, NKOTB's career was going downhill even after they tried to "reinvent" themselves and return to the public eye. You would think that these three days would have been an awesome opportunity for their fans to get re-excited. But when the fans were asked if they would ever do a NKOTB cruise again, one woman yelled out, "NEVER!" Alas, their antics (and lack thereof) have landed them on a few more shit lists.

These people say the cruise was a success... but uhh, they want people to cruise so we're kind of thinking they're biased.

Cruising Tips from New Kids on the Block

Cruising Tips from New Kids on the Block

Originally posted Monday May 18, 2009 01:00 PM EDT

When the New Kids on the Block boarded a ship for the Bahamas on Friday, they were joined by 2,000 excited fans for a three-night cruise. "I don't know what we were thinking," jokes Donnie Wahlberg. "We have nowhere to run if it gets out of hand."

Sitting on the Promenade Deck before the ship departed from Miami, all five New Kids – Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Donnie – shared their aquatic rules with PEOPLE.

Manscaping Is a Must
There's nothing wrong with a bit of personal grooming. While four of the New Kids said they prefer to be natural, Danny Wood admits to a bit of shaving and tweezing. "Yeah, I manscape," he says. "You've got to look good in a swimsuit. I live down here and I'm always at the beach, so it's kind of a must for me."

No Speedos or Mankinis
When asked which one of them packed a speedo, the other four members shout "Danny!" But Danny says his swimsuit won't be that revealing: "John Mayer may get away with a mankini, but the rest of us can't."

"What's a mankini?" Donnie asks.

"It's like a speedo with suspenders, but all one piece," explains Joey.

Keep Your Friends Close
If the ship were sinking and there weren't enough seats in the lifeboat, who would go down with the ship? "I'd give up my seat for these guys," says Wahlberg. "I'd do it in a heartbeat."

"I don't have kids," argues Jonathan, "so you can have my seat."

"I'd like to think I'd do that," says Joey, "but I have a little baby at home. So maybe I'd be the one to step all over everyone else to get in the boat."

Have a Plan for Being Shipwrecked
If the ship sets ground on the shore of an uncharted desert isle, the New Kids would all step into various Gilligan's Island-inspired roles.

"Jon would be the professor," says Danny. "He could build the huts. And Joey would be Mr. Howell, dressed up in a dinner jacket."

The rest of the guys think they're more like the Skipper, except for Jordan who admits, "I never watched Gilligan's Island enough to know what you're talking about."

"None of us are Gilligans," says Danny. "There are a couple of Gilligans in the Backstreet Boys, though."

"The problem is that there are no Gingers or Mary Anns," says Joey. "We've definitely got to have them on the island."

The three-day cruise, which is full of 2,000 Gingers and Mary Anns, by the way, concludes Monday. After the New Kids disembark, they'll return home to prepare for the kickoff of their summer tour, beginning in Atlanta on June 4.

New Kids on the Block set sail with fans on Carnival Cruise

Saturday, May 16th 2009, 4:00 AM

Corkery/News

The group poses for photogs at Macy's Herald Square.

MIAMI - The little girls who made the New Kids on the Block a boy band sensation in the late 1980s and early 1990s are all grown up, and now they’ve got disposable income. So what better way to show their love for Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie and Danny than spending three days with them on a Caribbean cruise? About 2,100 women, most in their 20s and 30s, paid more $1,000 each for a sold-out, three-day Carnival Cruise Lines trip that left Miami for the Bahamas on Friday. The voyage kicks off the band’s summer concert tour, when they’ll dust off hits like “Hangin’ Tough” and “Step by Step” along with songs from their 2008 album. Fans squealed and giggled as they boarded the boat, angling for a glimpse of the New Kids. Some wore buttons and T-shirts with their favorite band members’ names and photos. Others kissed cardboard cutouts. The band will perform twice during the trip, allowing half the passengers to come one night and the other half the next. Other events include meet and greets and photo ops. Concert cruises provide a nice bump for Carnival, which recently lowered its earnings forecast because it’s had to slash prices to maintain its bookings. John Mayer and Lynyrd Skynyrd have done recent cruises and an upcoming voyage is Elvis-themed. Barenaked Ladies took its fifth “Ships & Dips” cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line in February. Fans like the concert cruises because they’re “a more intimate experience than you would have in a typical stadium or concert venue,” said Cherie Weinstein, Carnival’s vice president for business development. New Kids cruiser Shannon Wright, 32, of Syracuse, N.Y., was hoping to get up close and personal with her favorite New Kid, Donnie — as in Wahlberg, older brother of Mark Wahlberg, who started out as rapper Marky Mark and is now a respectable film actor — but said she’d probably faint when she did. She might get the chance if she aces a poker tournament on the cruise itinerary for Sunday — the winners play Wahlberg at midnight.
Wright says her husband is “a little jealous of Donnie, but otherwise he’s OK with it.” She just got over seeing the group in concert a month ago, and now she’s got them cornered on a boat.
Emily Vance of Dayton, Ohio, took the cruise with her mother, Debbie Kingham, and friend Jenny Duncan. They wore matching black tour-branded tank tops and gushed about their favorite member — also Wahlberg, who was known as the “bad boy” of the group.
Kingham and Vance remembered their first concert in July 1990. When Vance went to their reunion concert this October, she cried.
Vance and Duncan said their husbands think they’re crazy, but they don’t care.
“We’re the only ones who understand,” Duncan said.
After 20 years, band members say it’s flattering to still have screaming women at their feet.
The confined spaces of a boat make it harder to get away from obsessed fans, but they said they want to spend time with people who are still loyal.
In between jokes about wearing Speedos on deck and making the entire boat breakfast, band members talked Friday about why they decided to continue performing.
“Our fans have come out since Day One, and we’ve just tried to answer the call,” said Joey McIntyre, at 36 the youngest member of the group. “It had to be fun and it had do be challenging, or we wouldn’t have done it.”
The New Kids “Full Service” summer tour begins June 4 in Atlanta.

What do you get when you mix a boy band of yesteryear with a cruise to the Bahamas? A boatload of 20-and 30-something screaming female fans ready to set sail. New Kids on the Block are back, and this time they are taking over the high seas with a cruise to the Bahamas for fans. Let's hope it's smooth sailing for the boy band this time around.

Q&A en el crucero!

De la comunidad oficial posteado por Heather:

A few of the girls I am now following have been kind enough to post some of the Q&A stuff. Since there are going to be no videos of this (security was apparently very serious about this) I figured I'd post what I could collect here.

If you've heard more or if you were on the cruise in the Q&A sessions, please post more on here! We love to know as much as we can about them!

Q: Who would you have over for dinner, dead or alive?
A:Jon-Bob Vila

Q:What one thing would you bring one a deserted island?
A: Joe - Jon Knight! He can build me a house!

Q: What do your kids think of your music?
A: Chance says "It's great!" She came on stage! Little Eric was dancing when they were on the Today show

Q: Truck and Fish??
A: Jordan - Late night session in studio-brain mush, Robin Thick, crunck! Sang the first line!! Truck and Fish was co written with robin Thicke and Jordan sang a bar of it.

Q: Why wasnt Danny at party last night?
A: Danny says, I was with my daughter, kiss my ass (Regarding Dannys comment, he was being funny, we got comfy like that with them. no offencse was taken.)

Q: "One I pull the cream for?"
A: Donnie - Not what we think, but has become that cuz he likes it. Orginially meant spend $ on. Confusion on why cream = $ is a wutang refernce, "Cash rules everything around me....CREAM get that money dolla dolla bills yall"

Q: What actor would you want to play you?
A: Joe- dicaprio, donnie- brad pitt, dany-hugh jackman Jordan- his son dante, jon - danny devito

Q:What's the title of your autobiography?
A: Joe-Balls Group-10 Balls-New Kids on the Balls-Hanging Balls (Joe has one thing on the brain)

Other notables:
-Word for the nite: Balls.
-Danny was more extroverted than usual, was quite funny in answers and has us laughin. But by far, Joe was funniest.

Family Feud:
word for the nite: Balls.

Name something nkotb puts initials on: Joe says his balls, donnie says his balls.

Name something donnie can do, other guys cannot: one answer was act, Joe went bananas & did some shakespere for us. LOL

What does Jon use in the morning?..his hand!!!!

New Kids hangin' tough with fans on 3-day cruise

The New Kids on the Block, from left, Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre, Donnie

MIAMI – The little girls who made the New Kids on the Block a boy band sensation in the late 1980s and early 1990s are all grown up, and now they've got disposable income.
