Native Donnie Wahlberg joins 'The Zookeeper' cast

Dorchester homeboy and NKOTB trailblazer Donnie Wahlberg has joined the made-in-Boston flick "The Zookeeper," starring Kevin James and Rosario Dawson.

Wahlberg spilled the news via Twitter here: "For those wondering what my wardrobe session was all about yesterday," he writes. "Now ya know ... I'm doing the movie 'Zookeeper' with Kevin James and Rosario Dawson."

Primary filming of "The Zookeeper" kicked off Monday, July 20 at the Franklin Park Zoo's elaborate mini-zoo set near the Giraffe Entrance of the park located at 1 Franklin Park Rd.

Slotted to film during regular park hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the next few weeks, "The Zookeeper" set resembled a Hollywood-style movie lot swarming with production staff on golf carts and lighting rigs peering behind off-limits structures built for filming purposes only.

"The Zookeeper" follows James as a zoo caretaker who consults with the animals in an attempt to learn their methods of dating and mating to help him win back the woman of his dreams.

Adam Sandler, Cher, Jon Favreau, Sylvester Stallone and Judd Apatow have signed on as animal voices. The five reportedly will voice animals at the zoo where keeper James longs for his female love interest played by Dawson. Sandler will be the voice of a capuchin monkey while Cher is slotted to be a giraffe. Favreau has been cast as a bear, Stallone as a lion and Apatow as an elephant.

In addition to "The Zookeeper," Wahlberg is waiting to get a greenlight for "Bunker Hill," the made-in-Charlestown TV pilot for TNT where he plays Mike Moriarty, a Boston cop determined to protect the streets he grew up on from crime and corruption.

The Dorchester native adds, "Here is the beauty of going 24 hours a day--a movie, a TV series, exec producing Jimmy Marsh, making more music w/ The Block. NO SWEAT!"

Joe Mac End of Tour Blog

Family

As most all of you know, I have been blessed to have my family come along for this amazing journey. I would not have been able to miss my son at this special time in his life- his first steps, his first words and on and on.

My wife was a Rock Star through it all. It is no joke raising a little baby on the road, but she handle it with style and grace. In the end it was all worth it. We felt there was no substitution for being together. And Griffin loved every minute- from helping the caterers to idolizing the Jabbawockeez. What amazing memories we will have forever to look back on.

Family is the great chill pill on the road, the great equalizer, the humanizer. It was such a blessing to see the other guys with their kids. Danny’s girl were so sweet and would not let you walk by them without giving you a hug- even if they saw you, literally, 20 seconds earlier. Donnie’s son Elijah became a kind of life coach in our dressing room before the show- asking honest disarming questions with his dad’s charm.
After all he got Jon Knight to sing Step 5- the Holy Grail of pop music.

After Jon sang Step 5 one night on the summer tour, Elijah was ready to try it himself. A touching scene when Jon and Jordan and Elijah went over to the “warm up” keyboard just before show time to practice singing “Don’t you know the time has arrived!?” I caught it all out of the corner of my eye and could feel the easy love of the whole thing. Kids break you down to your purest simplest way. And we all naturally reached out to them when they were out on the road.

It is now common knowledge that Elijah nailed Step 5 and is now a seasoned pro with the mic. The apple sho nuf doesn’t fall far from the tree. Jordan said on the cruise that he would want his son to play him in a movie. Wise choice- Dante is as cool as his dad and a natural on the piano. (We got a little taste of his skills in the dressing room when we were in New England).

Through it all, we are a family. 5 brothers and a million sisters. We laugh, we cry, we play…I argue with everyone- USED TO argue with everyone…

It still isn’t time to write the history of this group. There’s too much love in the tank and we got places to go and people to meet. Where, how, and when, we will eventually know. Whatever it is, we will be held together by the fabric weaved together by our parents years and years ago. A quilt that grows and grows- so dazzling, so spectacular, the likes of which the world has never scene.

Let’s watch this!

Danny on the Block

July 26, 2009 ·

Danny Wood looks like the “Buff Dad on the Block” as he is seen leaving the beach with two of his kids as the rain begins to fall over South Beach Miami. Fresh off the New Kids On The Block Summer Tour super-dad Danny Wood looks like he is cast from iron and comes as no surprise because Danny is a fitness guru! He tried to make the most of the weather as he and two of his children hoped for the best when they hit the beach but it began to rain shortly after and they made a dash for cover. Always the nice guy, Danny just smiled as it rained down and surely came up with a better plan for the rest of the day. Danny is currently recording a new album for the charity, Komen For The Cure a foundation that is dedicated to the cure, research, and prevention of Breast Cancer. A cause close to Danny’s heart as his mother Betty a victim of breast cancer, sadly passed away nearly a decade ago. Since then Danny has tirelessly raised money, given his time, and dedicated his life to the cause (www.rememberbetty.org). It’s also worth mentioning Danny Wood is one of the nicest guys anyone could ever meet. He is a class-act for sure!

Nuevo blog de Danny en su My Space

miércoles, julio 22, 2009

Sincere thank you to all who came to the Remember Betty party in Dallas. We raised more than $16,000 for Komen! Huge success! Special thanks to Ghostbar for hosting and my 4 brothers, The Block. Thank you Donnie, Jordan, Joe and Jon. You have gone above and beyond, and your support and friendship means more than I can describe.
To everyone who is keeping my mother's memory alive, I thank you. By attending these events, buying the shirts, holding fundraisers and making donations, you have given me a purpose for my mother's death. The funds we are raising and the awareness we are creating in her honor will give others the chance to live, and that means the world to me.

I'm working on some new projects with Komen, so stay tuned.
Again, thank you for Remembering Betty. I am eternally grateful.
Love you guys,

Danny
