Star Spotting: Donnie Wahlberg Celebrates His 40th Birthday (Again)

(Credit: Khoi Ton)
Above you see Donnie Wahlberg, New Kids On The Block member and veteran of countless network television cop shows, giving the ol' "don't speak" to an adoring fan who approached him at his second 40th birthday party. Second, you ask? Yeah, well, Donnie might actually be 41, but he had such a good time turning 40 that he decided to do it all over again. And judging by these pics, you can see why.
It all went down at Mohegan Sun, in Connecticut, and by the looks of things, Donnie Wahlberg turns 40 twice the way most people turn 21 once. Looking at some of these party shots I feel the need to invoke and somewhat paraphrase the amazing Matthew McConaughey line from "Dazed And Confused." Donnie Wahlberg keeps getting older, but the girls stay the same age.
While it was Wahlberg's night, he made sure his adoring fans went home with a little something as well, passing out Pop-Tarts with various images of him from over the course of his career emblazoned on them, to all his fans.
Check out pics of the New Kid-flavored Pop-Tarts as well as the "pop tarts" who attended Wahlberg's bash, all below.

Donnie Wahlberg threw himself a birthday party at Mohegan Sun over the weekend, billing it as "Donnie Wahlberg's 40 Again! Birthday Bash." (He turned 40 last year and hosted a similar party at the Connecticut casino.) The not-so-New Kid, who stars in the CBS cop show "Blue Bloods," spent some of the the night in the club, Ultra 88, surrounded by hundreds of screaming girls.

Infant Hearing Screening: ASHA Award for New Kids on the Block (Joey McIntyre)

Tuesday, August 24th 2010
Singer To Receive Annie Award

Rockville, MD – August 12, 2010- Performing artist Joe McIntyre of New Kids on the Block is the interviewee in a new podcast by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). McIntyre explains why he views his son Rhys’ hearing loss as a blessing and why he values the professionals who treat his child on a weekly basis.

At ASHA’s Convention in Philadelphia this November, McIntyre will receive the Annie Glenn Award. The “Annie,” named after Annie Glenn for her many years of advocacy on behalf of people with communication disorders, is an honor ASHA bestows annually. Last year’s recipient was Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

Rhys McIntyre has moderate to severe hearing loss, which was detected in the hospital during his newborn hearing screening. “We found out pretty fast,” McIntyre says of Rhys’ hearing loss. “It's so very important to have early intervention… we were lucky to find out right away. The fact that my son has hearing loss, he’s going to learn a different way, and he’s going to maybe live a little bit differently. And just because he’s going to have this challenge doesn’t mean he’s not going to have the same life as his 2½ year-old brother.”

In the podcast, McIntyre only has praise for communication professionals, including the one that helps Rhys during his weekly sessions. “[Rhys’] therapist is such an advocate… and we trust her. [Rhys’ therapy] has a vocational vibe to it… [These therapists are] helping families cope, and there's a real compassionate feeling to it all. They deal with different families all the time. And you have to have a lot of space in your heart and your soul and within your life to do this kind of work and to deal with the emotions of this kind of a journey… I think everybody in this kind of calling is to be commended.”

Honored to receive this year’s Annie, McIntyre realizes he is in a unique position to continue spreading awareness of hearing loss and help those in the community. “To be able to even be a part of this and have an award is really cool and I appreciate it,” he says.

Paradise Rock Club se renueva tras critica de Joey

Joey McIntyre, we’ve got good news: the Paradise has moved that “big frickin’ pole,” just for you.
Well, sort of. Technically, it’s the stage that’s moved — 15 feet towards Commonwealth Avenue — as part of a two-month, $400,000 renovation of the legendary live music club, to be completed this weekend. Marina and the Diamonds will be the first act, on September 1, to play the Paradise without having a two-foot cement support beam blocking the view.
“The pole was always in the middle,” said Paradise co-owner Joe Dunne during a Monday afternoon walk-through. “The one complaint from patrons and bands was always the pole.”
Rock fans have been complaining about the pole for decades, but it took a New Kid’s ire to finally get it removed. When McIntyre expressed his good-natured anti-pole feelings known in a December interview with the Herald, “that gave us a kick in the ass,” Dunne said. “But it was a huge job and it evolved from there.”
The new-look Paradise has the same general floorplan, though subtle changes have made a noticeable difference to the sightlines. The altered stage is just three square feet larger than the old one, but its new position allows it to be centered between the two remaining poles. “The pole is still there,” Dunne laughs, “but it just affects the bass player.”
The two most impactful changes involve the box office and the long, narrow corridor that used to create a bottleneck jam for sweaty audiences at the end of shows. The box office now sits at the street entrance of the club, and the hallway ends midway along its former length, allowing a panoramic view of the new stage area and drastically opening up the room.
The Paradise’s distinctive mid-level booths and VIP area have been gutted, creating a larger general-admission floor area. One bar – the one that would be on your left upon entering the main room -- has been relocated to the opposite corner (where bands sometimes stored gear), and is now expanded into a U-shape. There’s new sound and lighting, wider staircases, a fire escape in the balcony, a new sound booth, and a fresh paint job that was still drying when the Phoenix took its tour.
“It’s still the Paradise. We didn’t go radical,” adds Live Nation talent buyer Ryan Vangel. “We didn’t try to change the feel of the room.”
The Paradise Lounge front room remains intact but is smaller: the lounge’s old balcony section has been converted into two state-of-the-art green rooms for the main space. (Touring bands can look forward to hi-def TVs, a shower area, and a washer/drier unit.)
“Very few clubs this size have these types of amenities,” said co-owner Declan Mehigan (who with Dunne has ownership shares in the club along with Boston Opera House Ventures). “The real issue was [to] change the configuration of the stage, alter the sightlines, and then make a change for the better for the bands.”
The room’s listed capacity will remain unchanged at 728, though smart money says the owner aim to increase that figure after it gets a few shows under its belt. To this reporter’s eyes, the new configuration could hold up to 1,000 people.

Yes, The New Kids on the Block Do a Cruise and Yes, It Sells Out

August 19, 2010 at 1:31 PM by Jennifer Kester

Those of you who plastered posters of New Kids on the Block's Joey, Jordan and Donnie on their walls—you know who you are—can hang tough with your favorite boy band on the NKOTB Cruise 2010.

That's right, you'll be stuck on a boat with the not-so-New Kids. Carnival is hosting an NKOTB cruise from the port of Miami to Half Moon Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas from May 12 to 16. Tickets just went on sale and will likely sell out.
This marks the third voyage for the New Kids, and this year they are going bigger, setting sail on the Carnival Destiny with 2,600 rabid 30-something fans. Last year, the NKTOB cruise sold out in just a couple of hours, so this year the group got a larger boat.
While the boy banders will give performances during the trip, Joey, Donnie, Danny, Jordan and Jonathan are known to mingle with fans during the cruise, including hanging with them in the hot tub. So start bikini shopping now, ladies, 'cause you'll never know when one of them will break out into an impromptu serenade of "I'll Be Loving You."
cabins range from $699 basic rooms with no view to $2,599 grand suites with a large balcony, whirlpool bath, walk-in closet, fridge and seating in the first two rows for all reserved events in the main show lounge.

New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys are set to create the "Ultimate Ladies' Night Out".

Backstreet Boys Plan 'Ladies Night'

New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys are joining forces to create a tour dubbed the 'Ultimate Ladies' Night Out'.

Following a successful joint appearance by the two 90s boybands in New York earlier this summer, the two groups are now hoping to create a full tour together.

A source told the E! News service: "The idea is to recreate the boy band phenomenon. It will be the ultimate ladies' night out."

The bands are said to be in talks with promoters Live Nation about staging a tour across the US as early as next March.

The initial meeting of two groups was at a New Kids show at Radio City Music Hall in June, where they sang Backstreet Boys' hit 'I Want It That Way' to the amazement of fans.

After the show New Kids On The Block singer Donnie Wahlberg wrote on twitter: "As for tonight's Concert...Backstreet Boys got my respect forever!"

There are also rumours managers for the two groups are in talks for them to collaborate on recording a single ahead of the tour. No details as to whether the tour could come to Europe have been released at this time.

Backstreet Boys y New Kids on the Block a punto de compartir una gira

Backstreet Boys & New Kids on the Block Touring Together Too?!

Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block are close to signing a deal with Live Nation Entertainment to tour together this Spring, according to E!.

The tour, which is described to be an evening of Expendables-meets-boy-band, is even searching for a third group to join the fun, with Boyz II Men being at the top of the list.

Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block joined the stage together last June at Radio City Music Hall for an impromptu performance of the Backstreet classic, “I Want It That Way.”

The management teams for both groups are even trying to get the boys together to record a single before the start of the tour!

Backstreet Boys y New Kids On The Block, ¿juntos en una gira?

New Kids On The Block.

New Kids On The Block & Backstreet Boys Joint Tour Confirmed

Posted 8/18/2010 at 7:55am by Sadao

Yesterday, E! Online reported that legendary boy bands New Kids on the Block andBackstreet Boys were close to signing a deal with LiveNation to launch a joint U.S. tour in 2011.

Today, E!'s Ken Baker exclusively revealed that this tour is in fact happening, and we predict may just be one of the best selling of the year.

Future Tour to Feature Both New Kids on the Block & Backstreet Boys?

August 17, 2010 09:57 PM EDT by Meredith Jacobs

Remember the boy-band? That pop music, the dancing, those lyrics that somehow got stuck in your head and just wouldn't leave? Those music videos that used to top MTV's TRL? The posters of groups of guys hung up in teenagers' rooms? Could that trend me coming back for those same bands from back then?

Boy Bands Have Become Manbands & Join Together?

The Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block have now become "manbands" and may be touring together next year. According to a source, "the proposed tour" would be like "an Expendables-meets-boy band experience, in order "to recreate the boy band phenomenon." Sadly, that ship may have sailed and it may not be so easy to get it back. The two bands have taken to the stage together before for a rendition of "I Want it That Way" from the Backstreet Boys' boy band days (June, Radio City Music Hall). Apparently since that was such a big hit with fans, the two groups decided that they should make it bigger. Live Nation Entertainment is the one trying to make this happen, and they want to make the tour even bigger with a third group, perhaps Boyz II Men. There are even rumors that New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys could join together in the recording studio for a single before the tour kicks off. Nothing has been confirmed by Live Nation yet.

What do you think? Do you think this sounds like a good idea? What's your view on this new "manband" phase?

New Kids and Backstreet Boys Manning Up for Joint Tour?!

Backstreet's back! And going on the road with New Kids on the Block!

The hip-to-be-square manbands are close to signing a deal with Live Nation Entertainment for a joint U.S. tour in 2011, perhaps as early as March, E! News has exclusively learned.

A source close to the negotiations describes the proposed tour as an Expendables-meets-boy band experience, referring to the action blockbuster starring many beefy stars of yore.

"The idea is to recreate the boy band phenomenon," says the source. "It will be the ultimate ladies' night out."

Not that this would be the first time that Backstreet Boys and NKOTB have shared the spotlight.

Backstreet, which is down to a quartet since the 2006 exit of eldest member Kevin Richardson, joined New Kids onstage in June at Radio City Music Hall for a big group "jam" on Backstreet's "I Want It That Way."

"As for TONIGHT'S Concert... BACKSTREET BOYS got my respect forever!" Donnie Wahlberg tweeted afterward

Indeed, that's where the idea of a joint tour began to jell, our source recalls.

"The response was amazing," the source says. "It was a great night of music."

We hear that Live Nation is currently searching for a third band to join the tour, with Boyz II Men being at the top of the list, and that, even though New Kids and Backstreet have different management, representatives from both camps have already begun talking about recording a single together prior to a tour.

A Live Nation rep declined to comment.

Donnie Wahlberg loosens his tie

Written by Rosy on August 13, 2010 – 5:17 pm
With filming of the CBS show Blue Bloods in full force, you can never be too sure what celebs could potentially walk past! While Donnie Wahlberg was busy shooting on location in Washington Square Park, Melina Kanakaredes and her daughters strolled by accidentally with her two daughters Zoe and Karina Eleni on Wednesday, August 11th, 2010.
New York City Blockheads must be having major luck spotting their favorite Boston boy more often!
“Blue Bloods” is written and executive produced by Mitchell Burgess and revolves around a family of cops in the New York metro area. It stars Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, seasoned detective, family man, and Iraqi War vet who occasionally employ questionable tactics to solve cases. He is also the son of Chief of Police played by Tom Selleck.
You can check out the pilot this fall on Fridays at 10:00pm ET/PT, starting September 24, 2010 on CBS.

NKOTB Cruise 2011 From Miami Announced; Tickets On Sale Friday

nkotbfillmore.jpg
Expect all the classic Kids-style choreography on board!
We love musical cruise season every winter. It brings such a random assortment of sea-bound voyages, from the by-now-an-institution Jam Cruise to our new favorite, the garage-rock-soul-themed Bruise Cruise. Well, here's another somewhat unlikely hit trip that's returning: The New Kids on the Block cruise!

Haters be damned. Since reuniting in the past couple of years, NKOTB has been earning tidy sums for its concerts. The venues may be a little smaller than those they played in the late '80s and early '90s, but the performances are for no less passionate crowds.

Yes, the early New Kids fans have grown up, and luckily for the band, this means they have moved on from saving allowance pennies to spending their own discretionary funds! (Check out our slide show from their concert this past May at the Fillmore Miami Beach.)

Voila, the New Kids on the Block Cruise, which debuted in 2009 and features a series of meet-and-greets, dance parties, and intimate concerts. Despite the grumblings of a few fans who complained they didn't get enough face time on the first go-around, the first two trips were so nice, they decided to do it thrice -- and even bigger this time.

The third NKOTB Cruise departs from Miami on May 12, 2011 and includes stops in Nassau, Bahamas as well as the private island Half Moon Cay. The ship this time is the Carnival Destiny, bigger than last time around, and at five days and four nights, the trip is a day longer than in years past. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, August 13 at 3 p.m. Visit nkotb.com for more details.

New Kids on the Block to Sell 2,600 Tickets to Carnival Cruise Concert

'80s Boy Bands Are 'Hangin' Tough' on the High Seas
On Friday morning, Nichole Newerth plans to be in front of her computer eagerly waiting to buy tickets.

The '80s boy band is ready to head out on the high seas with 2,600 fans.
No, she's not some star-crazed teenager but a 36-year-old mother of three looking to go on a four-day Caribbean cruise with the '80s boy band New Kids on the Block.
"It's a lot of fun for mommies who need to cut loose," Newerth said. "I know, it sounds crazy."
Forget filling stadiums and concert halls. These days, some bands are finding a second act on the high seas.
The Backstreet Boys, Sammy Hagar, Boyz II Men and Rick Springfield all have upcoming cruises where they play to a boat full of adorning fans.
But it's not just about the concerts. The musicians also lead limbo competitions, bingo games, belly flop contests and join in karaoke at the bar.

"You think you're going on this cruise and you're never going to see them, but they're out everywhere," said Newerth, who has been on two New Kids on the Block cruises and plans to go on the band's third voyage in May.

On the first cruise two years ago, she got a hug from Donnie Wahlberg before leaving port. Then last year, she was sitting in the hot tub on the deck.
"I turn around and there's Jon [Knight] standing right behind me," Newerth said. "He stuck his hand in and said, 'How's the water ladies?' And I said, 'Climb in, we'll make room.'"
Hal Roseman, president of Rose Tours, is organizing the New Kids cruise and several others. He charters ships from Carnival and other cruise lines. Carnival operates the ship, food and normal cruise activities. His staff adds in the concert and band-related events.
Typically, 1,500 to 2,000 fans go on a cruise. But since the New Kids last year sold out the entire ship in a matter of hours -- "the fastest selling cruise in history," Roseman said -- this year they got a bigger boat.
Roseman said the 2,600 fans expected on the May cruise will be 95 percent female, with the average age being 32. (Backstreet Boys also get a mostly-female crowd, about 26. Rick Springfield gets a few more men -- about 30 percent -- and brings in a crowd with an average age around 42.)
"You get out on that cruise ship and it's you and all these women who you might not have a lot in common with if you met them on the street," Newerth said. "But all these women love them as much as you do and it's just, I don't know."
Newerth was then at a loss for words before saying: "You always have this image that they're going to stop and talk to the prettiest or the skinniest. But they stop and talk to everyone."
So does she have a favorite New Kid?
"Donnie but I was a Jordan [Knight] girl growing up," Newerth said. "I go back and forth. I kind of like them all. But if you have all five of them in front of me, I would choose Donnie."
She quickly added: "I am 36, and I know what I said."
Ian Drew, senior music editor at Us Weekly magazine, said some acts, like John Mayer, have done the cruises for the novelty of it. Other lesser-known names take part in large VH1 cruises hoping to make a name for themselves.
As for New Kids, Drew said: "They still have the rabid fans who will show up to anything. They have these fans that just won't die and will fill up the cruise ship very easily."
Fans Cruise With Their Favorite Bands
Sure, New Kids might not be selling tons of records these days, but they have sold out some big venues recently, Drew said. Plus a band-themed cruise means big money for the group.
The premium for a trip like this is about $500 more than a regular cruise, Rose said.
"It is very profitable," Drew said. "And they cut into a share of the profit. They aren't just a regular cruise ship entertainer."
Rose said the added price is worth it for the fans.
"People are looking for more than a regular cruise experience. They are looking to get close and personal with the entertainer," he said. "We're offering entertainment that they can't normally get on a regular cruise and they're getting more than they could get from a regular concert."
Sixthman is another company that does music-themed cruises with Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line. Acts include Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Mayer, the Barenaked Ladies and the VH1 cruise.
The company has seen the market for such cruises grow. Last year, they had 7, this year 11.
On a typical cruise, Sixthman brings about 15 to 20 full-time employees, five production assistants, 15 to 25 production staff and sometimes a security crew of five to 20.
Vance Gulliksen, a spokesman for Carnival, said his company loves the cruises. First of all, the bands sell out ships. But second fans fall in love with cruising and come back for their own vacations.
Newerth is one of those people.
"I had never been on a cruise until I went on a New Kids cruise," she said. "Now, I'm hooked on it."

The other Wahlberg: Donnie films TV show as Oscar-nominated brother Mark tops the box office

By Daily Mail Reporter

As teenagers in the 90s Donnie was the famous Wahlberg brother, finding fame with his band New Kids On The Block.
He helped his younger brother Mark follow him into the music industry, and while Marky Mark was soon a hit, he never found the success of his brother's band.
How things have changed. While Donnie has a respectable career as a TV actor, with rare small roles on the big screen, his little brother Mark is Oscar-nominated, with his own star on the Walk Of Fame.
Mark is currently enjoying having a U.S. number one movie with his film The Other Guys a hit at the box office.

Meanwhile Donnie was hard at work filming scenes for his new detective TV show Blue Bloods in New York City yesterday.

The 40-year-old sported an array of different outfits for his role as detective Danny Reagan, as he filmed action scenes among riot police.

And while his work may lack the glamour of his brother's, he looked happy and relaxed as he donned a white vest for some scenes and a sombre suit for others.

The show, which airs on U.S. network CBS next month, follows the lives of a New York police family and also stars Tom Selleck as a police commissioner along with Bridget Moynahan as an assistant district attorney.

'Obviously, I know of all of their work, but the humility they all have for such success is amazing,’ Donnie said of the cast at a recent Beverly Hills press junket to promote the show.
Mark, who is younger than Donnie by one-year, first came to prominence as a singer with his group Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch in the early 1990s.

The Boston-born actor then made the successful transition to film acting with roles in Planet of The Apes and Boogie Nights.

He was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as a Boston cop in The Departed.

Donnie, however, has been less successful at acting, with smaller roles in Band of Brothers, and the Saw horror films.

He also starred with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in drama Righteous Kill in 2008.

Later that year, he reunited with The New Kids, releasing an album The Block and embarking on a concert tour.

Joey McIntyre arrives to the premiere of 'Middle Men' - LA

Joey McIntyre hits the red carpet for Middle Men

 Source: http://www.accidentalsexiness.com/2010/08/06/joey-mcintyre-hits-the-red-carpet-for-middle-men/

You know how they say, “you never forget your first crush?” It is completely impossible to when the first boy you fell head over heels for was Joey McIntyre from the world’s biggest boy band New Kids on the Block!
After gazing into those crystal blue eyes and hearing him sing, “Please Don’t Go Girl” I knew that I was hooked.
Now, in what seems like a hundred years later, I can’t help but look at these new pictures of Joey and melt all over my couch. He has grown into an even more handsome adult and the fact that he is such a true blue family man guarantees me as a fan for life.
Joey walked the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of “Middle Men” held at ArcLight Cinemas on Thursday, August 5th, 2010 in Hollywood, California.
Speaking of his family, we’d like to wish Joe and his wife Barrett Williams an early “Happy Anniversary!” On August 9th, they will celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary.

New Kids On The Block To Host 3rd Carnival Cruise

First Posted: 08- 6-10 11:54 AM   |   Updated: 08- 6-10 01:47 PM

New Kids On The Block

It's hard to believe, but the New Kids On The Block sold out two cruise trips for Carnival in 2009 and 2010. So the cruise line is giving them another shot at repeating their luck in 2011, according to USA Today.
The 80's pop group will hit the high-seas for a four-night "NKOTB Cruise 2011" to set sail May 12, 2011. Tickets go on sale on August 13th at 3pm EST.
The cruise will happen on Carnival's Destiny, a 2,642 passenger ship. This trip will last one day longer than previous trips and will leave from Miami heading to Nassau and Half Moon Cay, a private Bahamian island.
NKOTB used the 2009 trip, which sold out quickly, to kick of their reunion tour. It was such a hot ticket that the day the cruise went on sale, the site's server crashed.
More info will soon become available at nkotb.com.

New Kids on the Block Announce 2011 Cruise

 Source:http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/

New Kids on the Block Carnival Cruise(12:45 p.m. EDT) -- What is happening in nine months,
six days, 14 hours and 33 minutes?
The New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) will set sail
for the Bahamas on Carnival Destiny.

The boy band that found fame in the late '80's and early
'90's has grown up -- and is quickly becoming the king
of the theme cruise world.
The group sold out their first concert cruise in 2009,
literally crashing the booking servers in the process.
A second cruise in 2010 sold out, as well.

The 2011 cruise goes on sale on August 13, 2010, and is sure to sell out quickly. The four-night Bahamas
cruise departs on May 12, 2011, and visits Half Moon Cay (Carnival Cruise Lines' private island) and
Nassau. Fares start at $699, and fans who book within the first 24 hours will receive a mystery gift.

Past cruisers do have an advantage. They can start booking at 10 a.m. EDT on August 13, but new
cruisers must wait until 3 p.m. to book.

While details are scarce at this point, the 2010 cruise featured live concerts, photo sessions, deck and beach
parties, Q&A sessions with the bands ... and, of course, lots of screaming female fans.
The NKOTB Web site promises more face time and new events in 2011.

Another New Kids on the Block cruise in the works

By Gene Sloan, USA TODAY
It's been such a hit, they're doing it again.
In the wake of sell-out trips in 2009 and 2010, New Kids on the Block has announced yet another cruise-with-the-band voyage for 2011.
Tickets for the 1980s pop music band's four-night "NKOTB Cruise 2011" will go on sale to the general public on Aug. 13 beginning at 3:00 pm EST.
The voyage will take place on the 2,642-passenger Carnival Destiny, a bigger ship than in the past, and it'll last a day longer than the first two NKOTB voyages. The trip will kick of May 12, 2011 in Miami and include stops in Nassau and Half Moon Cay, a private island in the Bahamas.
New Kids on the Block used its 2009 voyage to kick off the band's North America reunion tour, and it sold out almost immediately. It was so popular that on the day the cruise was first advertised on NKOTB.com, the site's server crashed.

More than 2,000 mostly female fans of New Kids on the Block (six out of seven were women, according to Carnival) booked the first voyage.
Like the first two cruises, the third annual NKOTB sailing will include lots of chances for participants to interact with the band. Full details have yet to be announced. More information soon will be available at nkotb.com.
