Popeye's (aka Jordan Knight) work on the "The History of American Graffiti"

Boston has a special place in graffiti history — and not just because one of our early marquee vandals, Popeye, was Jordan Knight of the New Kids on the Block.

Kirstie Alley Cuddles Up To New Kid On The Block After Impromptu Makeout Session With Partner Maks On DWTS

Kirstie Alley Dancing With The Stars DWTS paprazzi

Kirstie Alley (with Jonathan Knight of NKOTB!) and the rest of her Dancing With the Stars competitors celebrated their second week of competition with a group dinner at Cleo last night after the big show.
Kirstie continued to wow in the competition, and not just with her dancing skills -- the 60-year-old laid an impromptu smack on her 31-year-old partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy at the end of her quickstep.
She didn't score quite as high as she did the previous week with her debut Cha Cha, but Kirstie feels confident she'll survive tonight's elimination to dance again next week.
"Next week Rumba..." Kirstie tweeted last night. "Better be hot or I'll stab myself in the vag."
See Kirstie's kiss after the jump!

Joey McIntyre Is A New Kid On The Block For Charity

March 22, 2011
Joey McIntyre's charity work and causes

New Kids On The Block's Joey McIntyre has been busy helping spread the word about pediatric hearing loss.
The singer is the latest famous face to lend his support to Hear The World, a global initiative launched by hearing instrument manufacturer Phonak to raise awareness about the importance of hearing and the consequences of hearing loss. McIntyre also appears in the Hear the World public service announcement around the importance of pediatric hearing testing and early diagnosis.
After his son Rhys was born with severe hearing loss, McIntyre made it his mission to educate the public about the importance of early diagnosis, as well as solutions available to treat hearing loss in children.
“As a musician, music – and the ability to hear it – is the cornerstone of my life, so when my son was diagnosed with severe hearing loss, I wasn’t sure how to handle it,” said McIntyre. “Thankfully, because of today’s advanced hearing aid technology, I don’t have to worry about my son missing a beat. That is why I am honored to join Hear the World in their mission to educate the public about hearing loss and the solutions available to treat it.”
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, hearing loss is the number one birth defect in the United States – nearly 33 babies are born every day with permanent hearing loss, 1 in 1,000 have a profound hearing loss and another 2 to 3 in 1,000 have partial hearing loss. Children with hearing loss have increased difficulties with verbal and nonverbal communication skills, increased behavioral problems, decreased psychosocial well-being and lower educational attainment compared to children with normal hearing.

New fan photos of Donnie Wahlberg on the set of 'Blue Bloods'

One of our readers, Heather (a.k.a. @NKCoverGrrl), was kind enough to share these photos she took with Donnie Wahlberg on the set of Blue Bloods in New York City last week. As you can see from the pics, Donnie was his usual charming self! We give him a lot of credit for always being so good to his fans!

If you want to try to catch Donnie on the set of Blue Bloods, you don’t have much time left, they wrap filming on season one on April 15.

New Kids on the Block Cruise Themes Are Fans' Choice

March 18, 2011

Rebecca Villaneda--HispanicBusiness

New Kids on the Block

This year, fans get to vote!

In the past it's been PJs, Dress to Impress, White Night and casino night. The latter was a dream as the five members dressed to the nines in black tuxes, while another evening on last year's cruise, Donnie, Danny, Joe, Jordan and Jon dressed in togas showing some well-defined muscles.

Each year, leading up to the May sail, fans anticipate what the themes will be because, of course, a girl needs to go shop for the perfect ensemble.

Every year since 2009, the New Kids on the Block and more than 1,000 Blockheads sail to the Bahamas. This year, the 2011 cruise is one day longer and on a bigger ship.

But, the same antics and greatness will be enjoyed ... meet and greets, a concert, gambling, dancing, and an all-time favorite: running into a New Kid who happens to be wandering the ship.

The Carnival ship leaves from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., May 12. Every so often since the 90-day countdown began, the New Kids tweet how many days remain until the ship blows its horns.

This year, lucky ladies (and boyfriends and husbands of the ladies -- yes, they go too) can vote for the themes. They are as follows:

1. '80s
2. Toga
3. PJ's
4. Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
5. Hawaiian Luau
6. Red Carpet
7. Sports Team/Jersey

'Blue Bloods': Gold Star for Donnie Wahlberg's Performance

Note: This was written by a Yahoo! contributor. Join the Yahoo! Contributor Network to start publishing your own articles.

If you missed this week's episode of "Blue Bloods," "Silver Star," don't worry, you only missed the best episode yet. When a veteran of the Iraq war (Aaron Dean Eisenberg) is left dead in an alley for hours, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) goes into marine mode and demands respect for his fellow fallen soldier. Seeing as how the murdered soldier is an ex-marine, Danny does everything in his power to find the killers and bring them to justice.
For the first time, "Blue Bloods" has given us the opportunity to see the murder as it happens, as well as the culprits so there was no mystery as to who killed the victim. This could have been so that the viewer was more focused on Danny's passion in catching the men who killed the marine. While we are all aware that Danny served time in the Iraq war, no details as to what he went through or the things he witnessed have ever been given, until now.
A conversation between Danny and his wife, Linda (Amy Carlson), was especially emotional when he reveals that a 19-year-old boy lost his life taking Danny's place one night. Danny has been dealing with survivor's guilt since then, and has tried to live his life appreciating what he has.
Wahlberg's performance throughout the episode was intense and such a delight to watch. It is obvious that the actor put in a lot of effort towards making this a stand-out performance. In fact, the night before it aired, Wahlberg wrote on his Twitter page, "["Blue Bloods" episodes] all mean a lot to me... This one does especially. Hopefully to you, too." This was one episode not to miss.
Frank (Tom Selleck) had his own set of problems when a story about him ran in a newspaper, making him out to be a "glory hound." The obvious person to have the story run was the only one with an interest in keeping Frank away from running for mayor; the mayor himself (Bruce Altman).
In an interesting side note, the opening song was a cover of Alice in Chains' "Down in a Hole." With the recent death of an Alice in Chains founding member, bassist Mike Starr, one has to wonder if it's a coincidence or if someone involved with "Blue Bloods" had the song put in at the last minute to honor Starr.
"Blue Bloods" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. E.T. on CBS.

Joey McIntyre tapes a PSA for Hear the World

Hearing loss is the number one birth defect in the United States, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics — and Joey McIntyre is lending his time to encourage parents to have their children’s hearing tested early on.

The New Kids on the Block member has taped a public service announcement for Hear the World, a global initiative launched by hearing instrument manufacturer Phonak to raise awareness about the importance of hearing and the consequences of hearing loss.

Son Rhys was born with severe hearing loss in Dec. 2009, and McIntyre soon went public with his family’s journey in an effort to educate about the importance of early diagnosis.

“As a musician, music – and the ability to hear it – is the cornerstone of my life, so when my son was diagnosed with severe hearing loss, I wasn’t sure how to handle it,” explains McIntyre.

“Thankfully, because of today’s advanced hearing aid technology, I don’t have to worry about my son missing a beat. That is why I am honored to join Hear the World in their mission to educate the public about hearing loss and the solutions available to treat it.”

We spoke to McIntyre, 38, about his participation in the campaign — and his baby on the way in May!

Obviously this is a cause close to your heart — can you tell us a little about why you decided to get involved with Hear the World?

Anything I can do for the hearing loss community is a privilege. I hope I can help by telling our story. When you go through something like this, you can feel very helpless and alone, but there is so much out there to get you through it all and lead you to a path that is right for your child.

Last we knew, you and Barrett were working with speech and auditory therapists with Rhys, using hearing aids and seeing a response. You were still up in the air about cochlear implants. What are the latest developments with how you’re choosing to proceed with handling Rhys’ hearing loss?
Right now Rhys is doing great with regular hearing aids. The tests that they have for children his age tell us that he is on par (and in some cases ahead) with kids with normal hearing. It is a process and there’s more to learn, but right now we think he will not need cochlear implants.

Could you fill us in on Griffin, 3, and 15-month-old Rhys’ newest milestones?
Oh my! So many things. Every minute there’s an adventure or a quote or an accident … or a tantrum (working on those). But it is the best thing in the world. Nothing is even close.

You have a busy summer coming up — baby no. 3 is arriving in May and you’re set to tour with NKOTB and the Backstreet Boys. Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl? Will Barrett and the kids be joining you on the road?
We aren’t telling the sex of the baby … not even to PEOPLE.com. :)

Yes, we kid a lot that I’m outta here on a rock n’ roll tour while my wife is home with three kids under 3 years old. But it’s bittersweet for me. I think I’ll be able be there for the birth … HOPEFULLY!!! And I think the two oldest and my wife will be able to come out on the road for a weekend here and there.

New Kid Joey McIntyre Encourages Parents to Test for Hearing Loss

Joey McIntyre still has that baby face that made him so popular in New Kids on the Block, but these days he is a dad himself and is expecting another baby in May. In Dec. 2009, Joey’s son, Rhys, was born with severe hearing loss. Since then, the singer has been public about his family’s mission to make sure that Rhys has as normal a childhood as possible.
Rhys is one of the reasons Joey taped a new public service announcement for Hear the World, a global initiative launched by hearing technology company Phonak to raise awareness about hearing issues and early testing.
We’re big fans of Hear the World here at Tonic. We spent time with the organization in Peru last summer where we experienced the sounds of the Amazon with hearing-challenged teens.
“As a musician, music — and the ability to hear it — is the cornerstone of my life, so when my son was diagnosed with severe hearing loss, I wasn’t sure how to handle it,” McIntyre says. “Thankfully, because of today’s advanced hearing aid technology, I don’t have to worry about my son missing a beat. That is why I am honored to join Hear the World in their mission to educate the public about hearing loss and the solutions available to treat it.”

HEAR THE WORLD Interview with Joey McIntyre

Preview out of new HEAR THE WORLD Magazine No. 18

  • Joey McIntyre

How did you get involved with the issue of hearing loss?
Well, a few months back, probably about six months, my wife and I did a piece in People magazine and decided to tell whoever wanted to listen that we have a son who was born with hearing loss. Just like any regular family, we are simply trying to figure it out and do the right thing for our son. Since then, a lot of great organizations have asked me to talk to them and share my story. I’m certainly not an expert, but I think by talking about it and sharing our experiences it can shed some light on the issue and help some families out there that really don’t know how to deal with it or what to do next. We were certainly in that position, and we were lucky enough to have good friends and good people around us to point us in the right direction and tell us that, you know, there is hope and there are plenty of things that can be done for your son or daughter.

How is your son doing?
He’s great. My son is thirteen months old and he’s the happiest kid in the world. You know, loves to eat and gets crazy and cranky when the banana does not come fast enough to his plate, like any thirteen-month-old, but he has had hearing aids in his ears since he was a month old, so he’s very used to it. That’s another thing, the simple fact of having them in his ears, it’s not foreign to him and that’s part of the early detection as well. They are a huge help; he is hearing like a normal thirteen-month-old, and that’s amazing given that he was born with severe hearing loss. There’s moderate, severe and profound. Profound is pretty much completely deaf. So, for him to have severe hearing loss and to hear as well as he does is really cool.

That’s great. You said you went to People magazine or they came to you, and you told your story. When people read that story or hear about it, what do you want them to take away from it?
I think anytime you open up and share your experiences, you never know how it’s going to affect people. It really has a lot of value, you know, one thing you say could move a great many people. As I said, when we first found out that our son was born with hearing loss, we were, you feel like you can’t breathe, you know, it’s just overwhelming … you’re in shock and lots of different thoughts run through your head. Like how’s he going to live, what’s he going to do, is he going to have the same opportunities as everybody else, little things, you know. The thing is kids don’t listen to you anyways so (laughs), but if he’s in danger and I want to call to him, he might not hear me. Everything you can imagine goes through your mind. And that was all quieted when someone said that people can be born with severe hearing loss and still have a normal life. And there are lots of different routes. Some parents, even with all the technology available today, say no to hearing aids and cochlear implants and operations, because that’s the way their child was born, and I can totally relate to that. It’s part of the world of hearing loss so to speak, and it’s just one option and I think what I have learned is that there are many different routes for a life with hearing loss and every one is okay.

You’re being honored with the Hear the World Award. How does that feel?
Oh, it feels great. I really didn’t do much to earn these awards. I won another award called The Annie Award which is named after John Glenn’s wife, Senator John Glenn, the astronaut. His wife had hearing loss, so they have an award named after her, and I realize that I have a story and it helps people. I have some celebrity, and that helps raise awareness. There are of course amazing scientists and doctors and lay people involved in the organization, raising awareness, telling people about hearing loss, they’re really doing the work and if I can get up and tell my story and that helps the cause, then that’s great.

You’ve got an upcoming tour. How do you have time to do all these things?
Yeah, I’ve got two little boys, and another baby on the way in May and the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block are going on tour in May as well, so I’m going to be a real popular husband in my house when I’m having fun on the road, and my wife’s going to have her hands full! But she’s been more or less saying ‘get out of the house, it’s fine,’ you know? That’s the big secret … most of the time the moms and the wives say ‘scram, let me deal with this.’ But obviously we’re incredibly blessed that we have two healthy kids and another one on the way; it’s going to be busy! But you’ve gotta bring home the bacon, and that’s what I do for a living, so.

What can the fans expect on this tour?
The New Kids on the Block have been back together for a couple of years now and we’ve just been so blessed to be able to do a bunch of tours. We try to do something different on every tour and we really have the best fans in the world, and I know a lot of bands say that, but we believe it and we have a great relationship with them and we just want to bring something new to the table every time, so this time we’re touring with another band, one of the biggest groups in Pop history. The two fan bases coming together is awesome, but the best thing about it is that both groups really get along, there’s a lot of mutual respect and we just want to make it the best tour that we’ve been involved with. We’re doing 50 dates in the USA alone. It’s a big arena tour and it’s going to be interesting to figure out how to put together a show with, thankfully, 20 hit records between the two groups. It’s going to be fun.

What’s your favorite memory from being on the road?
Well, the first time around, that was a while ago so ... the madness sticks out more, and that’s okay, it was crazy. Our fans were so young and they just wanted to rip you to pieces and that’s fun for a while, but it gets kind of insane. But that whole experience, the downtime in-between, being able to travel around the world and see things that normally you just see in a history book in high school, and you’re actually in those places experiencing it first-hand, is such a blessing and such a gift. But to be able to come back as an adult and sing, keeping it fresh and interesting, and reliving everything, is really cool.

Let me see what else… I heard your eldest is really looking forward to the new family member. Can you tell us about it?
Yeah, my eldest son, Griffin, he’s three, and it’s his baby in mommy’s tummy. He’s thrilled. We are thinking about names … he’s trying to figure out a name … he comes up with crazy names like Oneapheaus. I don’t know where that came from, but I don’t think we’re going to name the baby Oneapheaus. But it’s great. It’s the biggest, greatest blessing in the world, having kids. It’s the most challenging, but also the most rewarding.

Hearing loss is the number one birth defect in the United States, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics — and Joey McIntyre is lending his time to encourage parents to have their children’s hearing tested early on.

NKOTBSB -- 2011 New Album Preview

In addition to hitting the road together this summer, New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys have announced they will be releasing a joint NKOTBSB album on May 24.

The as-yet-untitled record will feature five tracks from each band and new recordings by the combined supergroup.

Fans can vote for their favorite songs at nkotbsbvote.com. The top five vote-getters from each boy band will make the final track listing. Fans who pre-order the album before March 24 can even have their name printed in the liner notes.

While it remains to be seen how the final vote will shape up, the current leaders in the voting are New Kids favorites 'You Got It (The Right Stuff),' 'Please Don't Go Girl' and 'Hangin' Tough,' as well as Backstreet hits 'I Want it That Way,' 'Larger Than Life' and 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back).'

The album will include at least one new NKOTBSB song: 'Don't Turn Out the Lights,' a contemporary dance song that BSB members Brian Littrell and AJ McLean premiered during a Backstreet cruise in December. Also included will be mash-ups of songs by both bands, similar to the hits medley NKOTBSB performed at last fall's American Music Awards.

The album's release date coincides with the beginning of the NKOTBSB summer tour, which will find the groups crisscrossing the U.S. and Canada from May to August.
