preview of interview with Jordan Knight

from Sean's Space:

I just got off the phone with Jordan Knight…
And … just as I promised, I posed not one but several questions that his fans e-mailed me for consideration during the interview. Jordan gave really thoughtful answers and it was great to talk to him about his career both with the New Kids and his solo projects, which has spanned a quarter-century. Remember: The New Kids’ self-titled debut CD, seen here, came out in 1986! (In fact, that’s JK in the pink sweater, hanging from the street light … kinda makes us all feel old, right?!) He also gave a few clues as to what we fans can expect during this summer’s NKOTBSB mega-tour.

…and in my almost 15 years as a reporter, I’ve never had a more fulfilling interview, being able to talk one-on-one to one of my favorite celebrities of all-time about his work.Jordan took almost 20 minutes out of busy schedule putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming “Unfinished” solo CD — “Today, it will be finished!” he proclaimed — and rehearsals for the upcoming NKOTBSB tour to chat about everything from his local KFest appearance in June, to the possibility of a future solo tour and a new New Kids On The Block CD, among other topics.
“I’ll do some new stuff, some old stuff and some New Kids stuff,” Jordan told me, when I asked about what his set at the June 5 KFest might look like. “I think I will mix in one or two New Kids songs, for sure. I never not do New Kids stuff. I think that’s what people expect.”
My full story about Jordan coming to town will run in the June 3 edition of the Poughkeepsie Journal and online on our website. Until then, keep coming back to “Sean’s Space” early next week, as I’ll post more excerpts from my interview, including Jordan’s answers to some of your questions!

YOU can ask Jordan Knight a question!!!

from Sean's Space blog:

".. all you’ve got to do is e-mail your first name, your hometown (and state or country) and your question for Jordan to me at journalsean@aol.com and I’ll read them all before I speak with JK in advance of his performance at this year’s KFest concert in Fishkill this June 5. I’ll pick the best one out of all the questions I receive and ask it to Jordan when I speak with him. Then, I’ll post his answer to your question right here at “Sean’s Space.” I’ve loved opening up the previous interviews to fans — I usually get a couple hundred questions e-mailed my way for each — and I’m particularly looking forward to this one because I know how dedicated the BH (that’s Blockhead) Nation is, even more than 20 years after the guys’ first hit. Be creative because Jordan has a lot going on these days — between this summer’s NKOTBSB tour to his current single, “Let’s Go Higher” off the forthcoming “Unfinished” CD — so ask JK a question that no one else has ever asked him. Then, check back here to see if he answered your question! As much fun as all my other interviews are, I can’t wait to chat with JK … and I can’t wait to read all the great questions I know his fans will send. Hopefully your question will have the “Right Stuff” and find it’s way to Jordan!.. "

NKOTB Finds New Kidney for Fan - press links)

NKOTB Finds New Kidney for Fan

It's official ... Twitter saves lives -- in fact, Donnie Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block was able to help find a NEW KIDNEY for an extremely sick fan ... using nothing but the social networking site.
It all started with a tweet from the fan's best friend who was trying to raise awareness about the girl's dire situation -- one of her kidneys was failing ... fast.

Donnie retweeted the link to his 183,000 followers, asking for help ... prompting a barrage of phone calls to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where the girl -- named Bobbette Miller -- was being treated.

According to the Boston Herald, the calls yielded SIX matches -- and Bobbette is now scheduled for a transplant in June.

Ah, the power of 140 characters or less.

Jordan Knight Returns With His Newest Solo Record, ‘Unfinished’

Jordan Knight stepped into the spotlight at the age of 14, as the lead singer of original boy-band phenomenon, New Kids on the Block. Almost 26 years later, and Knight is preparing to spend his summer on a sold out tour with NKOTB and the Backstreet Boys, as well as getting ready to release his first solo record in almost five years titled, Unfinished.

And with his album’s first single, ‘Let’s Go Higher,’ already taking the airwaves by storm, it would seem that the five-year wait for Unfinished, was well worth it.
“‘Let’s Go Higher’ is the perfect first single because it’s happy, fun and really upbeat,” says Knight. “You want that first single to be something that covers the broad scope of the record,” he adds. “The rest of the album is basically just as upbeat, fun and happy as it is.’”
Fans who have enjoyed the slower ballads shouldn’t be worried though, as Knight promises, “Of course, there will be a couple ballads too.”
The first single, which Knight worked on with producer Colby O’Donis, has already garnered tens of thousands of  YouTube hits –and the official video isn’t even out yet. Completing the final edit just last week, Knight says fans can expect the video to be a mix between cool, sexy and fun – though the process wasn’t easy.
“It was a lot of work,” says Knight, “because the song is happy and upbeat, but sometimes it’s harder to translate that into video. I’m not 14,” he adds, “I can’t jump around and do that kind of thing, but you still want it to be happy and fun.”
The last time Knight released a “fun” video, was in 1999 for his Billboard Hot 100 hit “Give it to You”— arguably his most commercially successful song to date. Though “Let’s Go Higher,” carries the same dance-pop, upbeat style, Knight said he’s not interested in trying to churn out hit singles.
“I don’t think about that hit factor as much when I’m creating music. In fact, ‘Give it to you’ was one of three songs I’d sent to a radio station in Florida and  I actually thought another song should have been the first single, but they said ‘No, this is it, this is the hit,’ and we went with it,” said the singer. “But that song, that was an experiment and it just so happened that it ended up being as popular as it was.”

Since then, Knight has released four solo albums, including Jordan Knight, The Fix and in 2006, Love Songs. Though fans have been holding their breath for a fifth solo record, Knight explained the reason for Unfinished’s five year delay.
“Three out of those five years were spent focusing on New Kids, reuniting and performing and working out the tour,” said Knight. “And in between that, it was just never the right timing to go ahead and start working on solo projects.”
Knight also says that his last solo record Love Songs, was in fact, a race against deadlines and not a labour of love.
“It wasn’t really an album I put my heart and soul into. There were only three songs I put my heart into and felt good about. Everything else, I went into the studio, sang and left. I didn’t want Unfinished to be like that.”
With the sold out NKOTBSB tour, Knight will no doubt be incredibly busy performing with the group this coming summer. But fans of the artist shouldn’t lose hope for a solo tour just yet.
“Hopefully, I can do one, once everything with the NKOTBSB tour is over,” says Knight, adding that smaller tours are almost more fun than touring with a group.
“At the larger tours, you kind of have to play the most popular hits because you want all of the fans to be included, whereas at smaller shows, you can focus on performing the stuff you know your personal fans will enjoy too.”
Though some breakout artists may stress to surpass the success of their original musical group, Knight doesn’t pressure himself to compete with the New Kids.
“New Kids is bigger than all of the individual members,” explains the artist, “but I do compete against myself. It’s all about the process and working to create something that I’m happy with.”
And even though the 40-year-old father of two admits balancing his role as lead singer, solo artist and family man are difficult, he’s never deviated from music – though he’s thought about it once or twice.
“I always thought it’d be nice to be a painter, that or maybe a counsellor,” he says. “When everything is not going as planned you sometimes question,‘Why am I still doing this?’ — but ultimately it’s the love of music that keeps bringing me back.”
If you’re looking for the perfect album to blast with the windows down this summer, keep an eye out for the release of Jordan Knight’s Unfinished this coming May, by checking out his official website, Twitter, or Facebook page.

NKOTBSB Single's Rolling Stone Review: Listen to Song

April 19, 2011
Staff--HispanicBusiness
Rolling Stone magazine today released a short review on the new single by the kings of boy bands--New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys.

Writer Jon Dolan gave the single, "Don't Turn Out the Lights" three out of five stars and had some nice things to say:
"To boy-band fans, New Kids on the Block getting together with the Backstreet Boys is like Moses teaming up with Jesus. And the gut-sucking supergroup's debut track is blue-eyed dance-pop whoosh. Every Boy and Kid gets a piece of the vocals, and we get a piece of the dream."

Read the review and listen to "Don't Turn Out the Lights" here.

The single was released earlier this month and had its world premier on Los Angeles radio station KIIS FM with host Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest interviewed Joey McIntyre and AJ McLean about upcoming events. You can listen to the interview here.

The nine men making up this mega group are going on tour starting in May, following the New Kids' third cruise from Miami to the Bahamas. And its opening act will be, another "Jordan," Miss Jordin Sparks.

NKOTBSB also will release a greatest hits CD of songs comprised from both groups. On March 14, the groups launched an online campaign to have fans vote for their favorite songs.

According to The National Post, the tracks are:
1. Step by Step – New Kids on the Block
2. I Want It That Way – Backstreet Boys
3. You Got It (The Right Stuff) – New Kids on the Block
4. Everybody (Backstreet's Back) - Backstreet Boys
5. Please Don't Go Girl – New Kids on the Block
6. As Long As You Love Me – Backstreet Boys

Bsb, NKOTB tour features Jordin Sparks (Video)

2011-04-13 by OnTheRedCarpet.com Staff
Members of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys are looking forward to their upcoming tour and BSB member A.J. McClean says the collaboration was only made possible because of their fans.
"American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks is set to open for the all-male pop groups, who achieved international fame in the 1990s, especially among teenage girls.
"It's all about the fans and it's all because of the fans that this whole thing is even working," A.J. McLean, a 31-year-old member of the Backstreet Boys, told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish at the recent 2011 NewNowNext Awards in Los Angeles. "We all get along great and it's gonna be a blast."
The groups won Best New Indulgence at the award ceremony. McLean said the singers plan to start rehearsing in mid-April. The first show of the tour will take place on May 25 in Rosemont, IL.
Sparks, a 21-year-old singer who won "American Idol" in 2007, told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at ELLE magazine's recent "Women in Music" event she's excited to tour with the groups, adding: "It's definitely very crazy. I grew up with Backstreet Boys."
New Kids on the Block spurred hits such as "Hangin' Tough" and "Step By Step" and is made up of Joey McIntyre, Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg, the brother of actor Mark Wahlberg, who was himself once part of the band.
The Backstreet Boys, known for songs such as "I Want It That Way" and "I'll Never Break Your Heart," currently consists of A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and Nick Carter.
"Each group is lucky enough to have amazing fans all around the world," said McIntyre, 38. "I think the cool thing about a boy band is that there are four or five different personalities and really, you know, you can get something different from each one. It's kind of one-stop shopping and that's the fun about, you know, being in a group."
"I mean its 'Teen Idol 101,' but at the same time, we're older now, it's sort of like a girl's night out and people just get away for a night and we want to give them a great time," he added. New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys announced in November 2010 that they were set to tour together.
The groups set up their own joint website, nkotbsb.com and had their first televised performance at the American Music Awards on Nov. 21, 2010.
McClean, who who underwent rehab for "personal reasons" earlier this year, also has another event to look forward to this summer - he is set to marry girlfriend Rochelle Deanna Karidis on May 14, according to OK! magazine.

Joey McIntyre books guest role on Psych!

Written by Rosy on April 15, 2011 – 7:27 pm

Talk about two of my favorite worlds colliding! New Kids on the Block‘s youngest member Joey McIntyre has just booked a guest starring role on the USA hit comedy, Psych! James Roday, Dule Hill and Joey McIntyre on one show, pinch me I’m dreaming!! (and in a uniform no less!)

Here is the scoop from Entertainment Weekly who broke the news:

In the guest-starring role, McIntyre plays a cop that Shawn and Gus suspect is living a double life as “The Mantis,” the city’s mysterious masked vigilante/superhero who has single-handedly been taking down a drug syndicate.

The Beantown boy joins an already stellar list of guest stars announced for season six which includes Kristy Swanson who plays a “mysterious woman” in the season premiere episode entitled, “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader” and Heroes actor Malcolm McDowell who stars as Ambassador Fanshaw, a witty British diplomat temporarily residing in Santa Barbara.

Watch out for it this fall!

New Kid Joey McIntyre Cops to Psych Role

on TV GUIDE

Joey McIntyre

There's a New Kid on the Psych block.

Joey McIntyre, one of the members of the boy (now men!) band New Kids on the Block, will guest-star on USA's upcoming sixth season of Psych, EW reports.

The "buff new officer" (McIntyre) will join the Santa Barbara PD but appears to be harboring a secret. Could he be the masked vigilante The Mantis, who's been taking out the city's drug syndicate? Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) certainly think so.

McIntyre has appeared on Boston Public and competed on the first season of Dancing With the Stars, placing third. He recently reunited with his old band mates and the Backstreet Boys to collaborate on the NKOTBSB act.

EXCLUSIVE: Jordan Knight Pushes 'Unfinished' Back to May 31

New Kids on the Block singer Jordan Knight agrees - calling his spring and summer schedule "busy" would be "a gross understatement."

The Boston-native checked in to "The Ralphie Radio Show" and talked about a number of different topics - primarily the busy May he has in store. Knight turns 41 on May 17. NKOTBSB will release a joint album on the 24. Then the following Tuesday, Jordan will drop his solo album, Unfinished. He chatted about the projects and the Colby O'Donnis-written single, "Let's Go Higher" on "The RRS."

Star Spotting: That's 'Officer' Joey McIntyre To You

You may be too old to remember when Joey McIntyre was the youngest New Kid On The Block, but now he's all grown up and part of the boy band supergroup NKOTSBSB, which is a combination of the New Kids and the Backstreet Boys (see: amazing). So, Joey's doing pretty well for himself, especially after NKOTSBSB's single, "Don't Turn Off The Lights Now," left us extra excited for the tour on which all nine -- nine! -- members will be embarking this summer. Two generations of crazed fans -- luckily, we were old enough to live through fold-out posters of both Joey McIntyre and Nick Carter --unite!!

And "Joey Mac," as he was better known back in the day, doesn't just sing anymore, either. Dude can act, too. Recently, Joey tweeted some photos snapped of himself dressed up like a cop for a guest appearance on the show "Psych."

We have to say that while the guy still looks adorbz, we're on team Litrell fa lyf. It's just the rules of boy band jungle, y'all.

Weekly Chart Notes: Katy Perry, Beastie Boys, NKOTBSB

POP AND HIP 'HOP': Astute Chart Beat reader Jonathan Gregas from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, sent the following e-mail earlier this week

BACK ON THE BLOCK: NKOTBSB bows on the Hot 100's Bubbling Under chart at No. 14 with "Don't Turn Out the Lights."

While the artist name may appear unfamiliar on first glance, it's an acronym for two of pop music's most beloved boy bands: New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys.

The supergroup releases "NKOTBSB" May 13. The set features 10 fan-voted favorites (five by each act), as well as an additional new song by all nine singers ("All in My Head") and the set-closing "NKOTBSB Mash Up."

WNOU (100.9 FM Radio Now)/Indianapolis led all Pop Songs chart reporters with 23 plays in the April 4-10 tracking week, according to BDS. Program Director Tim Rainey says that "that basic boy band formula works so well ... and these guys obviously know a thing or two about that.

"As a female-targeted radio station, it simply makes sense for us to play the song. Actually, we might be idiots not to play it."

As to whether the groups' histories could work against them at such a youth-driven format (even if the members are still technically "kids" and "boys"), Rainey counters that despite potential stigma as a band known for its late '90s catalog ("Meet Virginia"), Train reached No. 3 on Pop Songs, and the Hot 100, last May with "Hey, Soul Sister."

"A hit is a hit, regardless of who sings it," Rainey says.

The station also plans to center promotions around NKOTBSB when its upcoming tour reaches Indianapolis July 26.

"Other radio stations in the market think too much when it comes to songs like this. Play the hits," Rainey says.

"We have a long history with the groups. We're glad that Radio Now can help make them 'now' again."

Which one you ask? Donnie? Danny?

The youngest of the original New Kids clan, Joey McIntyre, has been cast as the “buff new officer” at the Santa Barbara PD on USA Network’s upcoming season of Psych.

In the guest-starring role, McIntyre plays a cop that Shawn and Gus suspect is living a double life as “The Mantis,” the city’s mysterious masked vigilante/superhero who has single-handedly been taking down a drug syndicate. McIntyre previously acted on the TV show Boston Public.

Psych is currently filming its sixth season that will premiere this fall.
