Update: New Kids on the Block to Cruise Again on Carnival

4 August, 2009
New Kids on the Block Carnival Cruise Update, 3:30 p.m. EDT: According to @NKOTB's Twitter page, the cruise pre-sale is back up. The pre-sale had earlier been suspended because the ticketing system couldn't handle the demand.

(1:12 p.m. EDT) -- "I'm about to book a nkotb cruise in around 40 minutes ... it's pretty freaking great!" tweeted @katiedmcbride earlier today. It's official: After selling out their first concert cruise earlier this year -- and literally crashing the booking servers in the process -- popular boy-turned-man band New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) will be making an encore performance in spring 2010.

The theme voyage, a three-night Bahamas cruise aboard the 70,367- ton, 2,052-passenger Carnival Imagination, will sail roundtrip from Miami on May 14, 2010. The cruise includes a stop in Half Moon Cay, Carnival's private island in the Bahamas.

The 2010 concert cruise will feature onboard performances, opportunities to meet and mingle with the band, and various parties, both on the ship and onshore. We've been unable to confirm if the butter sculpture of Jordan Knight -- created for last year's cruise in honor of his birthday -- will be making a second appearance.

The "first annual" NKOTB cruise in 2009 was a smash hit, with the aforementioned bookings actually crashing the servers of the agency selling the cruise (Carnival chartered the ship). And not surprisingly, screaming female fans were among the majority of passengers, with about 1,800 women onboard and 300 men, according to Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen.

If you sailed on last year's sold-out New Kids cruise, you'll be able to book during a pre-sale, which started today at noon EDT. Bookings open to the public -- i.e. those who did not sail on the 2009 cruise -- on Thursday at noon EDT.
