One Direction EXCLUSIVE: ‘Their American success won’t last’ say US boy bands Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block
While One Direction and The Wanted
take the States by storm hitting the top of the American charts boy
band pros, Backstreet Boys' Howie Dorough and New Kids on the Block's
Joey McIntyre don't reckon our British boys are going to last long
across the pond.
Joey said: "The odds are against both One Direction and The Wanted — neither of them are going to work in America - it hasn't happened in 50 years so why now?" (We hope he's proved wrong!)
Howard, whose group is gearing up for a joint tour with NKOTB, was a little softer with his opinions and believes luck plays the largest part in an act's success.
He told us: "I'm not one to tell anyone what to do how to make their career happen, the hardest places to crack are the UK and USA.
"And for success to happen a lot of things need to go right. It was a lot of right time right place for Backstreet Boys.

The Wanted may have topped the US charts by Joey doesn't think they'll last /WENN
"The music has to be able to stand on its own but that's not the only thing that matters. To have long term staying power the music has to be strong enough, to be timeless.
"But nowadays with the internet, you do something good or bad - either way the attention is on you and that makes you successful as well."
The pressure to portray a perfect image may seem easy what with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne collective good looks but Howard and Joey stress life as a pop star isn't always easy.
Joey added: "It costs being a pop star, they [One Direction and The Wanted] don't have regular girlfriends they don't have the experiences that everyone else has and that can be a bad thing.
Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block have teamed up for a world tour
"They need to go through some tough times and have a period where they learn from all their mistakes — they don't have the chance to do that.
"They're missing out on being late on rent, doing laundry, or going out on normal dates — that's missing out. And they'll have to learn it all later."
It was hard for omg! to compute how life could be anything but sweet for both One Direction and The Wanted but we trusted the NKOTB star's words although we think missing out of washing clothes has to be a good thing!
Our exclusive chat tuned up to a more positive note as the boys spoke about the positives.
The two groups perform some songs together as part of their tour
"The states is really critical," said Howard. "Both of us had a lot of backlash to deal with."
Joey quickly chimed in saying: "The backlash is less now, people have more of a capacity for pop!"
"One Direction got on the Big Time Rush tour that's a huge plus! They need to get on it and get in front of people.
"They've got Simon Cowell behind them - if anybody could make them successful in the States it's him."
Talk soon turned to UK acts that have made it in Joey and Howard's homeland, such as Adele and Coldplay but The New Kids on the block singer believes it because their music is different.
"There's no real recipe for a UK band to break the US, people like Adele and Coldplay are different, they are part of a different genre to boy bands.
"If you're not coming from the X Factor US you're not seen. Kids aren't going to listen to you.
"It was totally different to when we first started. I don't know if this generation has time to learn about an act."
Erm when they see One Direction's and The Wanted's faces trust us, the American girls will want to know more!
Howard and Joey will appear on the NKOTBSB tour in April, you can buy tickets from aeglive.co.uk
