Live Music: New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys Burn Up the AMAs

In a world of mashups, two of the biggest boy bands ever have taken things beyond mashing songs together; the Backsteet Boys and the New Kids on the Block have mashed themselves together.

The former teen dreams joined forces on stage at the American Music Awards, officially becoming NKOTBSB, just ahead of their joint tour next summer.  On the heels of their Sunday night performance, the bands added 18 dates to the upcoming tour and released a joint statement:
“We can’t thank our fans enough for their continued support. The love that everyone has shown to us and to this project is incredible. We can feel the excitement and we won’t let the fans down. And with our new and elaborate stage design there won’t be one bad seat in the house.  We are truly blessed and are so appreciative to have you all along with us for the ride,” the bands said in the statement.”

If Sunday night’s performance was any indication of what’s to come, long time fans of either band will not be disappointed.  The Kids and the Boys still have some moves.   Joey McIntyre, AJ McLean, Jordan Knight, Howie Dorough, Jonathan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Brian Littrell, Danny Wood and Nick Carter make up the nine-headed monster that got the place rocking.
Throughout the AMA crowd, people could be seen singing and dancing—Jennifer Love Hewitt among them—to a medley of some of the biggest hits from both bands.  From the New Kids catalogue came “Step by Step” and “You Got It (The Right Stuff),“ while the Boys contributed “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” “Larger Than Life” and “I Want It That Way.”
Tickets for the previously announced dates are on sale now, while tickets to the newly added show will not be on sale until Dec. 11.  Check out the official NKOTBSB  website, or the band’s respective websites (www.backstreetboys.com, www.nkotb.com) for even more information.
